As part of your holiday, you can also learn a bit about the Spanish culture by sharing our lifestyle and enjoying Spanish food. Typical examples are tapas, jamón, paella, tortilla and chorizo, but there are many others you can try. Merche is an excellent cook and we’re pretty sure that you will enjoy her food. If you want, you can help her and learn how to cook “the Spanish way”.
You will stay at a lovely 1780’s Spanish country-house (casona montañesa) in the mountains. A charming house, typical of the Cantabrian region. You will love the experience of immersing yourself in the Spanish language! You will feel right at home in no time. Find your favourite spot to work and study, and enjoy our incredible patio and garden. You will find that your confidence, knowledge and fluency grows, while having the time of your life.

Enjoy a relaxed family atmosphere in our living room. Apart from Spanish TV, we have British freeview satellite TV as well as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video where you can watch films in English and Spanish. You can also relax in our Library.

You will be accommodated in one of our five large rooms with en-suite bathroom. All courses include full-board accommodation.

Puente Viesgo

In Puente Viesgo, 20 minutes walk from our home, you can also enjoy the impressive prehistoric caves of Monte Castillo, where humans lived 200,000 years ago. They are a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. The caves have fascinating paintings made by humans around 40,000-19,000 BC. The oldest cave drawings in the world.

After exploring all these valleys and mountains, why not relax in one of the most famous spas in Spain. El Balneario de Puente Viesgo offers you different treatments for improving your health and delicious regional cuisine.

Finally, if you want to have a drink or eat in town, local bars and restaurants offer very good value for money. For example, three courses with wine for 10€.

Puente Viesgo is located right in the centre of the region of Cantabria.

The climate in Cantabria is mild. However, it can snow heavily in the mountains (Picos de Europa) during the winter. The summer is usually warm but not as hot as in the South of Spain. In any case, because of the South wind, it can be over 30ºC in January.

However, this is not an isolated area. Santander is just 17 miles away from us; a famous city because of its wonderful beaches, promenades, museums, theatres, old cafés and its famous Royal Palace. On top of that, Santander is one of the safest cities in Spain, with one of the lowest crime rates in Europe.

Cantabria is, according to Lonely Planet, the second most beautiful region in Europe. The whole region offers a wide range of opportunities and excursion to explore it. The Gaudi’s modernist and imaginative architecture in Comillas, medieval villages like Santillana del Mar, wild-life parks, a ski resort, striking beaches, charming villages with lovely town festivals and, of course, the famous mountains of Picos de Europa with heights over 8,600 feet.
