Am I right in thinking that the structure of questions in Spanish can be thought as statements posed as questions from an English perspective?

I'm pulling this from duolingo, literally on my second day lol.

But I ran into a question that was basically "Translate this into Spanish: Is the house big?"

My answer was "Es un apartamento grande?" and this was marked correct, but the confirmation notice read back with "Un apartemento es grande?"

This seems like a minute difference and I'm guessing any fluent speaker would know what I'm saying in a specific case like that, but for my own benefit is that consistent way to look at it? That a Spanish question is an English statement, but posed as a question?

^ Kind of like that, funnily enough.

Is one technically correct?
