Difference between comer suficiente and comer lo suficiente?

So my understanding is that comer sufficiente describes that someone eats enough as in they perform the act of eating enough while comer lo suficiente also means that someone eats enough but implies that they have enough food to eat.

Both of these will translate to eats enough in English.

Am I correct, does this subtle distinction in meaning exist?
