Having trouble understanding ‘te’, ‘me’, and the like

for example, if I'm trying to say "nobody cares about you" in Spanish,

why would it be nadie te importas and not nadie te importa?

My thought process is that nadie is a singular noun so it will take the el/ella/usted form, makinig the the conjugation importa. However, nadie te importa translates to nobody cares in English.

Clearly, there's a flaw in my thinking; I would appreciate it if someone would help me understand this better.

Thank you!
