How is "se le llama" used?

This feels like a dumb question, because I've been studying Spanish for so long lol. But I've heard "se le llama" used from native speakers (I think), and I wanna use it. Is it just an impersonal form of "se llama"? I'm writing this sentence:

En América Latina, por ejemplo, se le llama [insert topic]…

Could I use either "se llama" or "se le llama"?
