Quick usage question on don and doña

Hola amigos, les quiero hacer una preguntica…

We all know the words don and doña and their general usage. But I've come across something more subtle, and I'd like to confirm whether my intuitions are correct.

I've noticed situations where speakers will use these words sarcastically, to almost mock their target. For example, let's say that I'm talking with a friend who is a chronic over-spender and someone who owes me money. In a conversation he boasts about spending extravagantly over the weekend, despite owing me that cash. I might say something to the effect of: "Oigan a este, ¡de repente Don Gastador tiene plata!" ("Look at this guy.. All of a sudden the big spender has money!")

Am I correct in this usage?
