Spanish Courses for Teachers

Rachel Porter

The SKE course has given me a deep understanding of Spanish language that I could not have effectively achieved on my own. I did not really know any Spanish before arriving, but Fernando’s clear explanations and exercises gave me a firm foundation for me to expand upon. He has also given us techniques on how to teach Spanish to students in the future, and always approaches his classes with energy and enthusiasm!

I would 100% recommend this course to anyone at any level thinking of doing an SKE.

I really enjoyed the two weeks in Spain with Fernando and his family. The classes were interesting, covering all of the key areas in sufficient detail to make sure we understood the main points and then with the online course reinforcing the material and giving us the chance to get the vocab and structures more firmly embedded. Fernando really conveys which language points can enable students to do what sort of things and provides a lot of interesting digressions to give a real insight into Spanish language. There’s plenty of good banter to be had too!

I now feel much more confident going into my teacher training course and I am looking forward to teaching Spanish – a testament to how enjoyable the lessons with Fernando were, and how much confidence they gave me. It was very useful to get tips from him on which language points children tend to find most difficult, and advice on how to go about teaching certain things. The online course is really useful for cementing what we studied in Spain. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend The Spanish Course.

We have been training Spanish teachers for more than 20 years. Our courses will help you to brush up your Spanish level but they will also be focused on how to teach Spanish.

We offer three types of courses for teachers that depend mainly on the funding. SKE courses are for non qualified teachers who are looking to obtain the QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and are 100% funded by the Department for Education. CPD courses are for qualified teachers and are funded directly by schools or teaching alliances. The Erasmus+ program is funded by the European Union.

SKE COURSES

SKE Funding

Our SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement) Spanish courses are 100% funded by the Department for Education. You will also get a bursary for covering part of your own expenses.

Before applying to our SKE Spanish courses the applicant must have applied for and discussed the offer of a place on an ITT (Initial Teacher Training) programme to obtain the QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). The need for SKE should be identified by the ITT provider and not the trainee nor The Spanish Course.

Therefore, it is important that you contact your ITT provider regarding funding for The Spanish Course SKE courses.

Our blended SKE courses include:

Homestay in Spain

Our courses focus not only on the language but also on how to teach Spanish to UK students, highlighting the main problems British students face.

You will be accommodated at our home, sharing our family lifestyle. However, you will have your own bedroom with en-suite bathroom to enjoy all the privacy you require.

Online course

Students will follow our web-based courses. A textbook will guide you throughout the course and you will always have the support of our tutors who will correct the work published by you on the online forums.

You will always have the support of our tutors who will correct the work published by you on the online forums.

Videoconference lessons

Students will gain extra support with our video-conference lesson where they will revise their work as well as practice their speaking skills.

Ask you questions and solve your problems and practice what you’ve learnt on the online course by interacting live with your tutor.

CPD COURSES

CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses are funded by schools and Teaching School Alliances. You should contact your school to see what funding options are available.

We offer three types of courses and we’re flexible about dates and course content:

  • Courses in Spain, which are designed according to teacher’s needs. Our courses range from complete beginners to advance level.
  • Online courses.
  • Blended courses offering online and courses in Spain.

Erasmus+ COURSES

Erasmus+ is a European Union programme dedicated to support education and training in Europe. Erasmus+ is not just for students but for people of all ages, including teachers and school administration staff.

Language teaching and learning is a key issue in the EU to eliminate barriers between and help to a mutual understanding of other countries and cultures.

Unfortunately, due to Brexit, these courses are not available for British teachers.

School trips to Spain

Spanish High School

Living at your Tutor’s Home

A new concept for School trips in Spain where students will live at their tutor’s home in a safe and friendly environment. Lessons will also take place at our home in the same relaxed atmosphere.

Ideal for Revision Courses

Fernando, your Spanish tutor, is one of the authors of the AS/A2 textbook ¡Ponte al Día! and has been a GCSE and A-Level teacher and examiner. Therefore, we understand the examination boards specifications for languages in the UK and this make us ideal for revision courses. Our courses are flexible and teachers can choose the course content that is best suited to your pupils’ improvement in the language.

Teachers and party leaders should also feel relaxed about risk assessment issues as we have a large experience facilitating schools to accomplish with LEA’s requirements. We also welcome inspection visits from school leaders.

Please have a look at our The Spanish Course Risk Assessment PDF document.

Activities

Depending on the length of your stay and your preferences we can suggest some activities to choose from. Puente Viesgo is famous for its prehistoric caves and we usually book a very good workshop about prehistoric life after the visit. Another typical excursions are the medieval village of Santillana del Mar, Santander, Cabarceno Park, etc.

There is a football/basketball pitch at an easy walk distance (5 minutes) where students can practice sports. We also have a garden where children can play safely.

You just need to book your flight tickets to Santander. Bilbao Airport will increase the prices a little bit because of the bus trip (less than two hours) but it could be an interesting option for you if you live in the North or West of England.

Student numbers

One of our most important advantages is that we don’t have a limit in student numbers. We cater from one student to large groups.

Students are full-board accommodated at our family home (up to 20 students and two tutors). For larger groups students will be accomodated in a local hostel.
