Use of "aunque"?

I noticed that native speakers use this word a lot, usually in the context of "even though" or "although". But I am having some doubts with regards to the meaning in some specific contexts.

Let's take this sentence for example: Aunque la vida nos mande a países distintos, espero siempre me recordes.

Is the speaker absolutely sure that life will take them to different countries (as a fact), hence the appropriate translation would be something along the lines of "Although life will take us to different parts of the world…."

Or is it more "Even though life might take us to different parts of the world"…

So, what I am interested here is the degree of certainty from the speaker's position.

Thanks!
