Santander, the safest city in Spain

There are plenty of museums, churches and public buildings that are perfect for exploring, along with an abundance of parks perfect for picnicking. Activities & Excursions


You can spend your spare time with us doing many different things, some without having to spend a single “penny”. This area is great for walking having walks with levels of difficulty to suit everyone. At the moment we also have three mountain bikes that are available for you to use. In adition, there are other things you may fancy doing at a reasonable price.

Some activities can be organised by us while for other activities we will have to contact third parties. If you are interested please do not hesitate to ask about it.

Spanish cooking

Learn how to cook Spanish traditional dishes. Usually we teach people how to cook paella, tortilla de patatas and other traditional recipes.

Prehistoric caves

Humans have been living in this area for at least 200.000 years ago. The caves hold paintings and they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Walks & Birdwatching

You can enjoy the slopes and the great views of the surrounding mountains or just have a stroll along the river watching many different birds.

Vía Verde

Cycle or walk along 34 Kms. of an old railway track, which has been restored for easy walks or for riding one of our bikes along the river Pas.

Bars & Restaurants

Meet Spanish people at one of the villages around the house. Visit the local shops. Have a wine and some tapas or an excellent meal at one of the local restaurants.


Enjoy one of the most famous spas in Spain, only a km. away. Even the Spanish football team have enjoyed the pleasures of Puente Viesgo spa.

Football & Rugby

Racing de Santander usually plays among the best teams at El Sardinero stadium.   Independiente Rugby is one of the top teams in Spain.

Performing Arts

You can enjoy classical music, opera, ballet, theater, musicals, etc. at the Palacio de Festivales. You also must pay a visit to the elegant Casino in El Sardinero.


Play at the birthplace of Seve Ballesteros and practice on one of the courses designed by the famous Ryder Cup captain at Mataleñas.


Skiing is available just 40 miles from our house. Alto Campóo Ski Resort has more than 30 Km. of slopes with a vertical drop of 2.125 m.

Water Sports

Due to the geographical conditions of the region you can practice all sorts of sports like trekking, rafting, canoeing, surfing, sailing, rowing, etc.

Horse riding

Riding a Spanish horse across the mountains can become an excellent and relaxing way of spending a day out. You can also learn at a local school.


You can travel with your car to Santander in the ferry from Portsmouth or Plymouth. You can also rent a car at Santander Airport or we can take you on a excursion at an extra cost. You can also take the bus for going to Santander.


Santander, the capital of Cantabria, is blessed with beautiful surroundings, which attract many visitors who can also sunbathe on one of the city’s beaches.

Santillana del mar

Get back to medieval times visiting one of the most beautiful and famous villages in Spain. You can also visit an extraordinary replica of the Altamira cave nearby.


Comillas is one of the most beautiful villages in Cantabria. It contains a majestic architectural collection including some of the Gaudi’s designs.

Picos de Europa

It’s one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in the world where you can do a bit of trekking and discover Potes, Picos de Europa’s medieval capital.

Castro & Bilbao

Castro Urdiales is a fishing village. It’s got a castle and church from the Middle Ages. It’s popular because of its food, beaches and scenic harbor. Bilbao is close to Castro.

San Vicente

There are very nice villages on the coast, like San Vicente de la Barquera, a perfect spot to taste the best fish dishes around and excellent views of Picos de Europa.


In a spectacular limestone based landscape, extracted by mining, there are over 100 different species to be observed, living “semi-wild” in large expanses of land.

El Soplao

It’s a unique cavern, an authentic natural “paradise” of striking formations, creating a show of lights and shadows, sensations, colours and smells.
